    abstract     = {Summary: In the library of the University at Heidelberg there is an old manuscript from the 13th century, decorated with coloured sketches, and containing the nearly complete text of the didactic poem `Der Welsche Gast' by Thomasin of Circlaere. There you'll find a series of pictures of the so-called quadrivium -- arithmetica, musica, geometria, astronomia --, which will be regarded here from an iconological point of view. In this way it will show itself as an allegory of an euclidean deductive `mathematica speculativa' and it may give a partial answer to the question about the nature of mathematics.},
