Summary: This paper deals with changes in existing IT systems resulting from RFID-based process modifications in maritime container logistics. The article demonstrates how a SOA enables this IT adoption by functioning as a software layer between process and legacy system to enable flexible processes. In addition, the paper shows how we applied the service principles during the design and the implementation phase and perform the implementation by developing a physical miniature prototype to visually show how the modifications can easily be implemented by service-based computing.
