Two groups of automorphisms defined on a graph G and an edge colouring of G are studied. The partition preserving group includes those automorphisms of G which permute the colour matchings of the given colouring. The colour preserving group contains the automorphisms which induce the identical permutation of the colour set. The authors give relations between the colouring of G and properties of the corresponding colour preserving group in case of non-commutativity. In addition, generating sets for both groups are described.
