Nonlinear interpolation between slices. (English)
Int. J. Shape Model. 14, No. 1, 39-60 (2009).
The authors present a method to reconstruct an explicit free-form smooth surface directly from a set of parallel contour slices, which is robust and creates a visually pleasing result, without requiring to create intermediate contours. Since the interpolation is independent of the matching, different matching heuristics could benefit from employing this algorithm [cf. {\it G. Barequet} and {\it A. Zamansky}, “Surface reconstruction by moving contours”, in: Proc. 9th IASTED Int. Conf. on Computer Graphics and Imaging (CGIM), Innsbruck, Austria, 7‒14 (2007)]. It is suggested that one can reconstruct a surface with $G^2$-continuity by using higher degree curves and surfaces.
