\BeginparDependability estimation or evaluation for a computer system involves the analysis of faults, errors, failures, and recovery on the basis of simulation or experiment. This work studies and compares the application-level effects of simulated fault injection and software-implemented fault injection into the network interface hardware. The goal is to validate the simulation methodology.\Endpar \BeginparThe authors also consider how the network workload, the type of host computer, and the region of code into which the faults are injected affect the results of software-implemented fault injection on a real local area network.\Endpar (Provider: ACM)
