The table of contents is extremely detailed. The book is divided into six chapters: 1) Introduction, in which the author provides aims and motivations of the book, as well as discusses the spirit in which the book is written; 2) Quantum mechanical phenomena, in which some basic quantum experiments without a classical explanation are briefly described; 3) Basics of quantum mechanics, in which a compact introduction of quantum mechanics is given in view of applications in quantum information; 4) Quanta of light and cryptography, which deals with quantum cryptography, including the issues of error correction and practical realization of cryptographic schemes via optical systems; 5) Teleportation, devoted to theory and experimental realization of teleportation; 6) Quantum computers, devoted to quantum computers and, more specifically, fundamental gates, quantum error correction, quantum algorithms and applications. Throughout the book, written in an unconventional style, only few references to the literature are given as footnotes, but each of the topics or examples introduced is discussed at length. To give an example, when discussing optical implementation of cryptographic protocols the authors provides a lot of informations about photon sources, optical elements and other details. Exercises are also suggested, which often rely on some numerical simulation to be performed in C++ or other programming language. rv: Bassano Vacchini (Milano)
