The construction of interoperability between DDC and CLC is urgent and significant to information resources organization and retrieval, especially the classification indexing of electric resources in foreign languages. This paper aimed to design an automatic mapping system based on a statistical mapping table and a manual one. Both tables were established one-direction, from DDC to CLC. The statistical mapping table was created based on the frequency of the mapping relations with a sample of USMARC records, which contained DDC and CLC numbers. The manual mapping table provided a CLC number for each DDC section. A mapping strategy was generated according to the mapping results comparison of a second sample. A third sample was utilized to analyze the results of the automatic mapping system with two established mapping tables and the specific mapping strategy. In conclusion, possible improvements of the system in the future were discussed. rv:
