The setting allows for a unified treatment of acoustic, electro-magnetic and some problems from elasticity theory. After presenting the abstract solution theory, a least square approach is suggested to solve the time-periodic problem in the form of a controllability problem by searching initial data yielding periodic solutions. The least square problem is then approximated by utilizing a conjugate gradient algorithm. For the reader’s convenience a separate section is dedicated to the classical vector-analytical cases. An appendix provides first numerical test results to illustrate the approach. rv: Rainer Picard (Dresden)
