    <ab>Summary: General finite difference formulae and the corresponding error terms are derived considering unequally spaced grid points, and using Lagrange's interpolation formula. Further the finite difference formulae and the error terms for equally spaced sub-intervals are also obtained as special cases of the present study.</ab>
