Each block of image is classified into three categories: text/graphic block, hybrid block and picture block according to the different characters on color and texture. Text/graphic block is compressed with a lossless coding algorithm integrating palette coding, Hextile coding and LZW algorithm. Picture block is compressed with lossy JPEG. Both lossless and lossy methods are used on hybrid block. Experimental results show that the method can exactly distinguish the information between the text/graphics and the picture. The peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the reconstructed image is improved by 1$\sim$4dB compared with other methods. The method achieves good compression ratio with low computation, which satisfies the real-time requirement.}, identifier = {05845945}, }
