The book is an argument of the statement that: prepositions are a useful category of language, closely related to semantic structures, are essential in many applications, are taken into account in machine translation and lexical choice in language generation. The book contains 19 papers that are divided into four groups. The first paper is an introduction to the syntax and semantics of prepositions. The first group of articles focuses on lexical aspects of prepositions. The presented results are connected with the status of prepositions, their representation and a treatment of multilingual aspects. The second group of papers is devoted to aspects of the syntax of prepositions, the third one considers the insertion of syntactic aspects of prepositions within formal frameworks, like HPSG-grammars. The last, fourth part of the book focuses on semantic aspects of prepositions. The book is readable, valuable for novices in the field, and for students and researchers also. \itemrv{E.
