Ed. 57, No. 3, 255-264 (2011).} \itemab Summary: Research on algorithms dealing with dynamic optimization problems has been one of the hotspots in the area of optimization algorithms. Population-based optimization algorithms are grouped into five categories, i.e., the ones increasing diversity after environment changes, keeping diversity during the run, using memory schemes, based on multi-population and prediction approaches. The keys in these methods are the preservation of the balance of exploration and exploitation in the research space. The algorithms can not only find the optimum but also track a changing optimum. Finally, this paper points out future problems in dynamic optimization which need to be thoroughly researched, e.g., research on algorithm design, building a near-real-world dynamic optimization problem model and algorithm theory for dynamic optimization. \itemrv{~} \itemcc{} \itemut{dynamic optimization; diversity; multi-population; memory schemes; prediction} \itemli{} \end
