    abstract     = {This volume provides the expanded version of a lecture series delivered by the first author. In a detailed textbook-style manner the authors introduce the quantum theory of spins and spin systems and proceed then to describe various solutions to spin systems. The first part of the book is devoted to the description of various exact methods which work in the special case of spin chains: the Bethe Ansatz is applied to $S=\frac{1}{2}$ Heisenberg chains and the Jordan-Wigner method is applied to the $S=\frac{1}{2}$ XY chain. The second half of the book is devoted to numerical methods: approximation schemes using Monte Carlo methods and the CCM method are studied.},
