ab: Summary: The main idea of this article is the use of model-based methods in
    all phases of system development. The state models consist of various
    discrete, analogue, and hybrid elements, organized in a hierarchical
    structure of system modules. The term ïstateï is rather to be
    understood in the sense of classical sequential machines. The paper
    provides both a short general description of the basic modelling
    methods and the related software tool ïState Designerï. Especially,
