ab: Summary: Implementation of numerical and statistical methods within program
    systems often prevents the user from knowing, in which modelling
    context the method employed makes sense for his problem of evaluation
    of a functional relationship. The paper presents an order of such
    methods according to the following aspects: (i) what is known on the
    dependence before the experimental investigation starts, (ii) what is
    assumed to be the result of the investigation, (iii) what sort of model
    imagination is used.
