<ab>We present a preference structure in the criteria space coming from a joint consideration of multiple reference points and its application to selecting a compromise solution to a multicriteria minimization problem. Besides the well-known ideal reference points, we also consider the lower limits of optimality and anti-ideal reference points, achievement of which may be regarded as the failure, and solutions available at the pre- decision stage. In order to apply all the information available in an aggregate form, we consider two first and two latter classes jointly. Thus, we analyse the model of preferences consisting of two sets and two functions modelling the decision-maker's wish to reach one of them and to avoid the latter. To select a solution, we find the set D which contains all solutions non-dominated in the sense of the above functions. Then we confine the interactive search to the intersection of D and of the set of non-dominated points in the fundamental multicriteria problem.</ab>
