On nonsingular (bang) subarcs the control takes either its maximum or minimum value and on singular subarcs the control varies smoothly between its maximum and minimum values. Although, the class of problems considered here has been extensively analyzed, there appears to be no general analytical procedure available for determining control structures when all state variables are specified at fixed initial and final times. This paper considers a deceptively simple looking linear problem for which admissible control structures are extremely sensitive to bounding state values. A combined computational and analytical approach is applied to the problem and it is shown to be more effective in producing accurate results than a selection of established numerical methods.}, identifier = {01639777}, }
