The book offers an excellent introduction into the boundary element method. After the presentation of the fundamental concepts and the mechanical and mathematical background, the boundary element method is developed for static and dynamic analysis of trusses, beams, membranes, plates, and elastic bodies. Elementary examples from mechanics illustrate the underlying principles and many exercises facilitate the application of the technique. As a supplement to the book three boundary element programs for the solution of the Laplace equation, for 2-dimensional elasticity problems and plate bending problems are offered.
