The unpredictability of binary sequences is defined with the help of ``predictors'', mappings having a property of causality. Every class of the predictors can be constructed effectively according to four axioms. This idea, near the studies by von Mises, is presented against a background of probability theory and the theory of Kolmogorov complexity.
