An object oriented specification of a word expert system based on the actor model. (Lexikalisch verteiltes Text-Parsing. Eine objektorientierte Spezifikation eines Wortexpertensystems auf der Grundlage des Aktorenmodells.)} \itemso{Informatik-Fachberichte. Subreihe K\"unstliche Intelligenz. 243. Berlin etc.: Springer-Verlag. X, 263 p. (1990).} \itemab The book exposes the author's experience in the practical and theoretical design of natural language understanding systems. Starting with the TOPIC system (for abstracting specialized German texts), the author describes the detailed solutions to his approach. Chapter 1 explains the reasons of chosing the formal tools: distributed, semantic-oriented text grammar and parser, based on a formal specification language for actor models. Chapter 2 exposes the methodological bases of distributed lexical grammars, actor models, and of the object-oriented language for modelling the distributed systems. Chapter 3 describes the knowledge representation structures in text parsing: frame representation models and their use in word expert systems, e.g. in Parser-Bulletin example. Chapter 4 contains the main experimental part of the approach: the lexical, sentence, and text description levels of the distributed (partial) parsing process, the use of linguistic pattern structures to describe the text grammar and actor model interaction, the declarative and procedural solutions to important linguistic questions arising in the parsing process. Many illustrative examples are given. Finally, the four appendices contain fragments of the frame-based knowledge-basis, and text-parsing examples. \itemrv{N.Curteanu (Ia\c{s}i)} \itemcc{} \itemut{natural language processing; distributed semantic-oriented text parsing; TOPIC understanding system} \itemli{} \end
