An algorithm is suggested for calculating optical properties of fabric fibers that accounts for the interaction of light not only with the surface of fibers but also with their volume. An algorithm for calculating optical properties of fabric based on optical properties of its fibers has been developed. The optical properties of fibers and fabrics are represented with the help of the bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF). The calculated BRDFs can be used for assigning physically correct optical properties of fabrics in virtual scenes. The developed solution demonstrates qualitative, quantitative, numerical, and visual correspondence of the calculated and actually measured fabric optical properties. The optical properties data for actual fabric were obtained through measurements performed using special measuring equipment. rv:
