Results of a research project conducted in Germany concerned with stimulation of media competence among company employees with little formal education suggest that low participation in open-access community radio stations is not due to lack of interest, but to difficulties in achieving media access. Findings suggest further that these difficulties can be overcome through target-oriented media education. In this article the design and results of such an intervention are presented and discussed in the context of an action-oriented approach to social science research.
