    abstract     = {In this paper, U. S. patents granted to corporations are used as a proxy for an indicator of the commercial value of cluster analysis. The focus is on the recent periods of 2006 and early 2007. A detailed analysis of recent patents provides some revealing insights. It points to several areas of patent activity for which cluster analysis is widely used. These are discussed and a number of patents are highlighted to illustrate the diversity of applications. The eight described examples illustrate collectively the range of commercial applications of clustering techniques.},
